BARISAN Nasional has declared it has the simple majority it needs to form the Perak government, even though vaunted kingmaker PAS has yet to decide between teaming up with BN or Pakatan Harapan to form a coalition government.
“BN has enough seats to form the Perak government.
“I will request for an audience with the sultan of Perak to inform His Highness of this latest development and seek his consent to form the 14th state government in accordance with the Perak constitution,” said Perak caretaker menteri besar Zambry Abd Kadir in a statement read by his representative at Impiana Hotel, late yesterday.
Zambry’s communication chief Nizamuddin Mat Isa did not allow questions from the media.
The statement did not say how BN had achieved a simple majority β whether by reaching a deal with PAS or defections of PH or PAS members.
Zambry was absent at the press conference, as were other PH and PAS state reps.
Pakatan Harapan won 29 seats, BN 27 seats and PAS three seats in Perak.
BN needs at least 30 seats to have a simple majority in the 59-seat state assembly in Perak.
Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria said earlier today that it would tmeet with its central leadership tomorrow to discuss potential collaboration with PH or BN. β May 11, 2018.
