THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation INTO Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli over allegations against his son will not affect Perikatan Nasional’s CAMPAIGN for Kuala Kubu Baharu. 

Selangor Perikatan Nasional chairman Mohamed Azmin Ali said this today, adding that it was unfair to slander people.

“The probe against Perlis MB doesn’t affect (PN). We will continue campaigning and explaining to voters here.

“For example, regarding the academic qualifications of PN candidate Khairul Azhari Saut, which was made into an issue by Pakatan Harapan.

“The matter (Harapan’s allegations) were proven untrue after Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) confirmed his (Khairul’s executive master’s degree in education management). It should serve as a lesson to Harapan to not slander during the campaign as the rakyat are tired of such games,” Azmin was quoted telling reporters in KKB last night.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11 will witness a contest between four candidates.

They are Pang Sock Tao from PH, Khairul Azhari Saut (PN), Hafizah Zainuddin (PRM) and an independent candidate, Nyau Ke Xin.

The by-election was triggered by the death of the constituency’s three-term assemblyman from DAP, Lee Kee Hiong

Yesterday, Shukri had his statement recorded for seven hours and was later released on a MACC bail.

Confirming the matter, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said a statement would be released soon.

Met by reporters in Putrajaya, Shukri said he was still not sure why he was being probed by the MACC.

He also said he would not be called in for questioning again.

Later, a post on Shukri’s official Facebook stated that he was allowed to go home after having his statement recorded by the MACC and was not remanded.

“MB was not remanded. He was allowed to go home after providing his statement,” read the statement posted by the administrator. – May 1, 2024
