SABAH Barisan Nasional chairman Musa Aman will again be sworn in as chief minister, at 8.30pm.
The announcement was made after Sabah Star formed an alliance with BN, allowing the coalition to form a simple majority in the state.
With Star’s two seats, BN now has a total of 31 seats in the state assembly, enough to form the state government.
The pact comprising Parti Warisan Sabah, PKR and DAP secured 29 seats in the 14th general election, the same as BN.
Star president Jeffrey Kitingan said the party supports Musa on the condition that all Umno-BN assemblymen leave the peninsula-based party and form a Sabah-based party.
“I have discussed with Sabah BN chairman Musa Aman to find the best political solution that is in Sabahans’ best interest,” he told reporters, with Musa present.
“And, the agreement is that Gabungan Sabah and all BN state seat candidates who won will form a Sabah-based party.”
The state BN comprises seven parties, four of which are local, namely the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko), Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah and the Liberal Democratic Party.
Early this morning, Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal, along with assemblymen from the party, PKR and DAP, as well as two Star reps, including Jeffrey, had gone to the Shah Alam palace to be sworn in by Governor Juhar Mahiruddin.
However, police officers blocked the road leading to the palace, and told the group to return later, at 11am.
The two Star assemblymen had “disappeared” and could not be reached before they were seen with Musa at the chief minister’s official residence, Sri Gaya, about 2pm.
Earlier today, Upko acting president Wilfred Madius Tangau announced that the supreme council has decided that the party will leave BN for Warisan.
However, the five Upko reps who won in GE14 said they will remain with BN.
If Upko joins the Warisan-PKR-DAP pact, the alliance will have a total of 34 state seats. – May 10, 2018.
