THE chief secretary and heads of the security forces are seeking an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V to brief him on the process of power transition.
The meeting is necessary to prevent rumour and speculation, said Inspector-General Mohamad Fuzi Harun said at a press conference in Bukit Aman today.
“The transition of power needs to be done quick to prevent unhealthy speculations and it must be done according to the rule of law and the federal constitution,” he said.
Sources in Putrajaya said a meeting between the top leaders and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was tentatively scheduled to take place tonight.
“It will all depend on the meeting between Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this evening,” the source said.
Fuzi, armed forces head Raja Mohamad Affandi Mohd Nor and the chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa are among those expected to meet Sultan Mohamad.
Fuzi said the three of them had met earlier today in Putrajaya to discuss the steps to take after the general election and a smooth transition of power.
“I would like to also say that the security and the safety of the country is under control. So far nothing bad has occured.”
On how the police was affected by the opposition’s shock victory at the polls, Fuzi said the security force was a professional agency that will do its duty to the government of the day. – May 10, 2018.
