Social media led to BN defeat, says Umno man

The Malaysian Insight

UMNO Supreme Council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman today blamed the influence of social media on Barisan Nasional’s failure to retain Putrajaya in the 14th general election.

Tajuddin, who defended the Pasir Salak parliamentary seat, said: “Young voters are very much influenced by social media, (which was rife) with attacks and allegations against the government and its leadership.

“It must have influenced young voters,” he said after a meeting BN chairman Najib Razak.

Najib held a press conference earlier today but did not concede defeat.

PH won 104 seats, followed by BN (79), PAS (18), DAP (9), Parti Warisan Sabah (8), Parti Solidairity Tanah Airku (1) and independent candidates (3) in GE14.

On the possibility of Umno MPs jumping ship, Tajuddin remained vague.

“We must work together and keep our people strong.

“The party has no anti-hopping rules. This is a democratic country,” he said.

He said that Najib was still in high spirits and wanted to move the party forward.

“He said ‘stay together, united’. We will continue to work and serve the people. Anything could happen today, or tomorrow.

“At the moment, we accept the verdict. We don’t want to create any problems or we will look like the bad guys.” – May 10, 2018.
