Almost 300,000 sign petition addressed to king

AN online petition to the king to honour the people’s will and recognise Pakatan Harapan’s electoral victory has gone viral, gaining more than 299,000 signatures in four hours.

“Due to the resounding victory by Pakatan Harapan, the clear majority voice of the rakyat and the need to promptly declare a government for Malaysia for continued management of the country without interruption, we pray for the only right action to be carried out by our rulers,” said petition, initiated by Brian Jit Singh, on change.org.

One of the signatories, Mary Wilson, said she wanted a better Malaysia and better future for the next generation.

Pei See Mah said she was signing it because she wanted a new government that was clean, transparent and free of corruption.

Emily Choong thanked PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad for leading the fight for Malaysians.

Many more expressed their love for the country in their comments.

Caretaker prime minister Najib Razak called a press conference this morning but did not concede defeat.

He said no single political party had obtained a simple majority and that the king would decide who would be appointed prime minister. – May 10, 2018.
