BN accepts defeat in Kedah

KEDAH Barisan Nasional (BN) has conceded defeat to Pakatan Harapan in the wake of its loss in the 14th general election and said it will respect the decisions of the people.

Former Kedah menteri besar Ahmad Bashah Hanipah said the country’s democracy and constitutional system needs to be upheld to ensure that prosperity and harmony is maintained.

“During our administration of the state, we have carried out our duties with care and heartfelt determination for the welfare of the people. We hope that Kedah will continue to prosper,” he said in a statement.

Bashah lost the Suka Menanti state seat to PKR’s Zamri Yusuf by 13,301 votes.

The five-term assemblyman only managed to get 7,050 votes while PAS’ Mohd Sabri Omar garnered 4,580.

Istana Kedah today announced that the swearing-in ceremony for the Kedah menteri besar has been postponed.

PH, which won 18 seats to PAS’ 12 and BN’s six, is expected to unveil its MB candidate today. – May 10, 2018.
