Pakatan will abolish GST, revert to sales tax

The Malaysian Insight

PAKATAN Harapan will scrap the goods and services tax (GST) when it takes over Putrajaya, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.

The coalition’s chairman said instead of GST, the government-in-waiting will revert to the sales and services tax (SST).

“There is no going back. It is a cancellation. We don’t need it. We will go back to the sales tax,” Dr Mahathir said in a press conference today.

He also said the PH government will review the Anti-Fake News Act as it felt the law was detrimental.

“The law will be revised. We will see if the law is made to curb or silence the opposition.”

The Barisan Nasional government led by former prime minister Najib Razak implemented the GST in April 2015.

Just recently, the government also passed the Anti-Fake News Act this year to curb dissent on social media. – May 10, 2018.
