Najib not conceding defeat

The Malaysian Insight

NAJIB Razak is in denial.

He refuses to accept that Pakatan Harapan has won the GE14 with a simple majority, choosing instead to leave the future of the country in the hands of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

At a much-awaited press conference today, the Barisan Nasional leader said he accepted the will of the people but instead seemed to be laying the groundwork for holding onto power.

“I accept the verdict of the people and BN is committed to respect the democratic principles.

“Since there is no one party that managed to obtain a simple majority, the Agong will decide on who will be appointed as the prime minister,” he said today.

These words represent Najib’s first public utterances since Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s PH won big in GE14.

Malaysia Decides understands that Najib has received support from Abdul Hadi Awang to form a coalition and plans are also underfoot to entice other winners to join him.

He was flanked by BN deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, vice-presidents Hishammuddin Hussein, Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, and Wanita Umno head Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

Last night, PH, an informal coalition, claimed victory.

Early today, the Election Commission declared that PKR had won 104 seats while its ally won nine in Sabah and Sarawak, giving them a total of 113.

A party needs 112 seats to form the federal government. – May 10, 2018.
