Power is with rakyat, Rafidah tells new Pakatan govt

The Malaysian Insight

PAKATAN Harapan must remember that it serves the people of Malaysia as it transitions into federal government.

The reminder came from an ecstatic Rafidah Aziz who posted on her Facebook page at 4.15am today, a day after Malaysia saw a change of federal power when Barisan Nasional was toppled from six decades of rule.

“The government only serves the rakyat and the stakeholders of the nation. Not to serve those managing the nation.

“The world will be watching every step being taken, by the new government and by us the rakyat,” said Rafidah, who campaigned for PH midway during the campaign period, and which led to her sacking from Umno.

She said Malaysians had rejected the “politics of divisiveness, parochialism and xenophobia”.

“They have placed a premium on unity and togetherness.”

She said the mandate given to PH to manage Malaysia for the next five years was a “contract” the people had given the former federal opposition pact, using her oft-repeated metaphor during the campaign of the government as a contractor whom people hired or terminated to manage the country.

Targeting the young, Rafidah appealed to them to “look after our beloved and blessed nation as best as you can”.

“Please help to make this new chapter in our History, a truly glorious one, InsyaAllah.”

She said she never imaged that she would live to see this day when people registered “so strongly their disdain and rejection of corruption, poor governance and abuse of authority”.

“Power is with the rakyat, not the government.

“I am too excited to sleep.” – May 10, 2018.
