SABAH is the third state, after Perak and Kedah, to get a hung assembly, with Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan-Parti Warisan Sabah each winning 29 state seats.
Warisan won 21 seats, while PH’s PKR won two and DAP (6).
The remaining two seats – Bingkor and Tambunan – were won by local opposition party Sabah Star, led by Jeffrey Kitingan.
Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal, who previously said the party is ready to work with PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the federal level, will hold a press conference in the morning on the “great news”.
It is understood that Star representatives met Shafie after midnight.
PH-Warisan won 13 parliamentary seats, while BN won 11.
Jeffrey won the Keningau seat, beating his brother, Parti Bersatu Sabah president Joseph Pairin Kitingan, with a razor-thin majority of 45 votes.
Sabah earlier saw caretaker deputy chief ministers Yahya Hussin and Raymond Tan defeated in Petagas and Tanjung Papat, respectively.
Others who lost were Mary Yap Kain Ching (Tawau), Salleh Said Keruak (Kota Belud) and Abdul Rahman Dahlan (Sepanggar). – May 10, 2018.
