Najib digging in despite pleas to concede

The Malaysian Insight

FOR now, Najib Razak is unlikely to concede defeat to Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Pakatan Harapan – despite a visit from his brothers.

Sources told Malaysia Decides that the BN chief’s brothers suggested that he respect the wishes of Malaysians but Najib felt that despite all the information, PH still had not obtained a simple majority.

As at 1.42am, of the 176 parliament seats declared, PH won 91 seats while 67 seats were won by BN.

Najib’s strategy at this stage appears to be one of attrition, hoping to persuade PAS, independents and possibly even Warisan’s winning candidates to join forces with BN.

But even this move is unlikely to get him enough votes to get a simple ‎majority.

Najib also has to contend with fact that BN Sarawak has sent word to Putrajaya that the wishes of Malaysians must be respected.

In the coming hours, more prominent Malaysians are going to ask Najib to stand down and concede defeat.

Will he? – May 10, 2018.
