DEPUTY Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof has directed the Ministry of Energy Transition and Public Utilities and the Ministry of Public Works to find the optimal solution to address the water supply issue in Sabah involving the Telibong Phase II Water Treatment Plant project in Tuaran.

He instructed the ministries to discuss with relevant agencies, including the Public Works Department and the Sabah Water Department within two weeks.

“The discussion is necessary to come up with the estimates on the additional cost involved so that the matter can be submitted again to the federal government.

“This project is through a loan, so we have to discuss how to find additional funds to get the project completed,” he told reporters after a briefing on the progress of the LRA Telibong Phase II project in Tuaran today.

Also present were Sabah Public Works Assistant Minister Limus Jury and Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau, who is Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd chairman.

On the work progress has reached 70% completion, Fadillah said.

Fadillah, who is also responsible for Sabah and Sarawak affairs, said his visit was to see and understand the water issue affecting the people of Sabah, especially in Tuaran.

“The prime minister has tasked me with finding a solution because this phase is quite critical not only for the industry and the local population, but also Universiti Malaysia Sabah which is also having water problems,” he said. – Bernama, January 20, 2024.
