Shell-shocked Najib planning Plan B

The Malaysian Insight

NAJIB Razak is huddled with his inner circle, digesting the shocking Dr Mahathir tsunami and coming up with Plan B.

What Plan B is, is anyone’s guess, but the fact that the Election Commission has not verified Pakatan Harapan victories suggests that dark forces are at play.

To say that Najib has been shocked by his ministers being blown away, and Kedah, Negri Sembilan and Johor ‎falling to PH, would be an understatement.

As late as 5pm yesterday, he was telling aides that 125 seats are in the bag, and if luck was on Barisan Nasional’s side, the coalition would win more than 130 seats.

Najib and his inner circle were dismissive of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s final speech to Malaysians, calling it a non-event.

But when the results started coming in fast and furious, the mood in Najib’s office blackened considerably. Still, the PM felt that BN would hold on to Parliament.

By 10.30pm, it became clear to Najib that the man whom he derided as a 93-year-old had been greatly underestimated.

Liow Tiong Lai, Dr S. Subramaniam, Shahrir Abdul Samad, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Johari Abdul Ghani, Chua Tee Yong, Johari Baharom, Mah Siew Kong.

All prominent names. All defeated by the Dr Mahathir tsunami.

The Malay tsunami that Daim Zainuddin and others in PH prayed for, happened.

Constitutional experts worry that Najib will invoke the National Security Act and declare an emergency.

As long as the EC does not verify the results, it remains unofficial, and Dr Mahathir and PH cannot be sworn in as the next government.

But here’s the thing: it would be foolhardy for Najib to believe that he can deprive PH of victory.

It would be foolish of Najib to believe that he can defraud Malaysians.

There should not be a Plan B or Plan C for Najib.

He should just activate Plan A: accept the results and the will of the Malaysian voter.

Anything less is unacceptable. – May 10, 2018.
