Police arrests drug trafficker, over 13kg heroin seized

PERAK police have successfully arrested a man suspected to be involved in drug trafficking and seized approximately 13kg of heroin from a car park at the Rural Transformation Centre in Gopeng, said state police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

The unemployed 40-year-old man was apprehended at 9:25pm by a team from the state’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.

The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Expressway Mobile Patrol Vehicle of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department from Bukit Aman.

“Inspection inside the suspect’s car revealed suspected heroin weighing approximately 13.1kg, estimated to be worth RM111,000, and cash amounting to RM206 was also seized.

“A urine test found the suspect positive for methamphetamine. The suspect also has a previous criminal record,” he said in a statement today.

Yusri said according to the ongoing investigation, the suspect has been actively engaged in drug trafficking activities since early January. The confiscated drugs are suspected to be intended for distribution in the local market within the state.

The suspect has been remanded for a week, starting today, to facilitate investigations under section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama, January 18, 2024.
