DR Mahathir Mohamad is afraid that the current Barisan Nasional (BN) caretaker government would invoke the National Security Act if it loses the 14th general election.

The Pakatan Harapan prime minister candidate said BN president Najib Razak was currently huddled in a secret meeting with top officials including the army and police currently.

“I hope and I pray that the people responsible for keeping law and order will not tolerate this and allow this new security law to be used,” Dr Mahathir said at a press conference tonight.

He claimed that Najib was being backed by certain authorities and called on them to put the nation ahead of any individual.

“They should come to their senses. Especially the police and the armed forces,” Dr Mahathir said.

The former prime minister stressed that Malaysians would retaliate if Najib declares emergency.

“Malaysians are not violent people, but I don’t think they will not allow this kind of thing to happen,” he said while drawing on how former Philippines dictator Ferdinand Marcos was finally brought down through peaceful demonstrations. – May 9, 2018.
