MINISTER in the Prime Minister’s Department Wee Ka Siong has kept the Ayer Hitam seat after beating DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong by 303 votes.
Wee, who is MCA deputy president, polled 17,076 votes while Liew picked up 16,773 votes according to unofficial results from the tallying centre there. PAS’ candidate Mardi Marwan earned 4,975 votes.
In 2013, Wee won by 7,310 votes against PAS’ Hu Pang Chaw.
Meanwhile, Liew said Pakatan Harapan has a real chance to form the next government.
“Let’s pray for a smooth transition,” said Liew on Facebook.
Although the results for Ayer Hitam has not been officially announced yet, Liew said he was on his way to Kuala Lumpur.
“I want to thank all of you who have helped in the campaign of Ayer Hitam. It has been such a wonderful experience working with the team.
“This campaign has made national headlines and gained so much ground in this previously safe Barisan Nasional seat,” said Liew.
Liew called on all his supporters to return home and not react to any provocation. – May 9, 2018.
