ABOUT 70 voters at SRK Taman Dato’ Harun (1), Petaling Jaya, queuing outside the polling centre were prevented from casting their votes after the 5pm cut off time, which led to a standoff.
A social media user, Peter Sze, said a light strike force (LSF) team of was deployed as the voters refused to leave the compound.
Sze, who had been a polling agent and counting agent (PACA) for five years, described the situation as the most interesting one he had encountered yet.
“There were long lines and many waited 1-2 hours to vote.
“In my polling centre there were about 60-70 voters who were still in queue at 5pm and the Election Commission stopped them.
“There was huge outcry and it escalated till there was a standoff between the voters refusing to leave and LSF reinforcements (were) sent in,” he quoted saying on his Facebook page.
He also said there was a huge crowd gathering outside the school compound.
“We cannot commence counting and are stuck inside the centre,” he added. – May 9, 2018.
