NINE Sabahans lodged police reports after being barred from casting their votes in Klang this morning.
North Klang police chief Shamsul Amar Ramli said that the nine who had queued since morning were asked to leave the polling station by a PKR polling agent who told them that they could not vote because their MyKad contained the letter “H”.
“H” is used to identify the person as hailing for Sabah and “K” is for those from Sarawak.
Shamsul said the PKR agent raised objections after seeing their identification document.
“PKR’s Charles Santiago and an EC officer then discussed the situation, after which Santiago accepted that the Sabahans were legitimate voters,” he said.
However, the Sabahans faced another problem after they attempted to rejoin the line they had been in, raising the ire of other voters.
“Because of that, they left without voting and went to Pandamaran station to lodge a police report,” said Shamsul.
He said the Light Strike Force unit were sent to the school to contain the situation.
“It was only after the LSF arrived that the crowd dispersed.”
Incumbent Santiago faces BN’s Ching Eu Boon and independant G. Puvananderan for the Klang parliamentary seat. – May 9, 2018.
