Woman denied from voting as her name was used by another voter

A VOTER in Petaling Jaya expressed his disappointment with the Election Commission, as his mother was not able to vote due to her name having been crossed out from the voting list even before she could cast her vote.

Loke Wai Loon, 36, said it was the first time this had happened to his 60-year-old mother, Chai Kim Len, as she had voted previously at the same location, SMK Tropicana, with no issues.

“I suspect that they either crossed it wrongly or there was someone with a similar IC number.

“I will lodge a police report and ask what can be done about it,” he said.

They had waited for half an hour to cast their votes, but were turned down by the officials in charge.

Loke turned to the PKR candidate for Petaling Jaya, Maria Chin Abdullah, who was there to cast her vote as well, and asked what could be done to solve the matter immediately.

Maria talked to the EC officer in charge at Channel Three, Nik Mohd Izzani Nik Mohd Amin, and requested to see the name list.

Izzani however denied her request and claimed that the form could not be viewed and/or photographed by the public.

Maria urged Loke to lodge a police report immediately.

“If (they) don’t want (to lodge a report) the only other thing they can do is to complain to the EC.

“But that would have no effect to be honest. They (EC) won’t clean it up. They should’ve cleaned it up prior to GE14,” she told Malaysia Decides. – May 9, 2018.
