VOTERS in Gombak have had to wait in line for three hours to cast their vote, but they are not complaining.
They said they felt it was a minor inconvenience if they were serious about making a change after 60 years.
One of them, a 69-year-old who only wanted to be known as Lim, said it was a golden opportunity to make a change for a better government.
“We want a change. We have already waited for three hours.
“We are still willing even if the Elections Commission asks us to wait for 10 hours. We have already waited for 60 years,” he told Malaysia Decides.
Most of the voters in Sekolah Menengah Taman Melawati said they were disgruntled with the EC for not organising the voting process systematically.
Some of them took their complaints to caretaker Selangor menteri besar Azmin Ali, who was also the parliamentary candidate for Gombak.
“Datuk (Azmin), we have waited here for almost three hours. But it is nothing, it is worth the wait,” 58-year-old Rahmat said.
A first-time voter known only as Lynne said she was proud that Malaysians came out in droves to do their civic duty.
“We have lined up since 7am. It is not much of a problem as we are doing our duty,” the 29-year-old said.
Azmin, who is PKR’s deputy president, said he was disappointed with the EC for not doing its job properly.
Some 20,000 new voters were added to the Gombak seat after the redelineation exercise. The seat now has 142,112 voters.
Azmin is seeking a third term in Gombak. He is also contesting the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat. – May 9, 2018.
