AS the 14th general election campaign drew to a close last night, Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow reminded the people of their power to sack caretaker prime minister Najib Razak.
The two-term Penang exco said Najib had done much to stay in power, including removing his cabinet and Umno members who had dared to question his honesty and credibility.
“Nobody dared challenge him. Whoever questioned him would be sacked from the cabinet and party, like Muhyiddin Yassin, Shafie Apdal and Mukhriz Mahathir.
“Recently, Umno veterans critical of him, like Daim Zainuddin, Rafidah Aziz and Rais Yatim were sacked from the party.
“In the last general election, 52% of the electorate nationwide questioned him. Now millions are questioning him. Can Najib sack us? No. Instead, we will sack him,” he said at a mega ceramah at the Penang Esplanade before a crowd of several thousand.
Muhyiddin and Mukhriz have since become leaders of Bersatu, which is part of PH; Shafie has set up Parti Warisan Sabah that is leading the challenge against BN in Sabah.
Daim, Rafidah and Rais, meanwhile, have been helping PH campaign in the general election.
Chow, who is contesting the Tanjong parliamentary and Padang Kota state seats, said Malaysia’s survival depended on the outcome of GE14.
He asked if Malaysia could survive another five years under Najib and BN.
“Our survival depends on the outcome of this election. Can you imagine living under Najib, BN and their cronies for another five years?
“Can we put a stop to it tomorrow (today)? Yes, we can,” he told an enthusiastic crowd.
Fired up by the speakers, after the ceramah, the people remained to wave the PKR flag at passing motorists, encouraging them to honk to show support.
Many drove home with the flags sticking out of their car windows. Motorcyclists and their pillion riders held the flags on the ride home.
In the last two evenings, PH ceramah at several locations in Penang have drawn strong crowds.
At the two Esplanade ceramah, Penang DAP collected about RM151,700 in its donation boxes. – May 9, 2018.
