Chinese never asked for a PM from among them, says Rafizi

RAFIZI Ramli last night said he often tells rural Malays that urban Chinese have never asked for a prime minister to be elected from among them, as propagated by Umno.

The PKR vice-president said it is the duty of all Malaysians to elect a fair and responsible leader.

“Urban Chinese, Indians and Malays want just one thing, (and they know that) given that Malays are the majority in the country, surely a Malay will be elected leader,” he told a crowd of 1,000 at the final ceramah for Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for Segambut, Hannah Yeoh.

“We – whether rural Malays, urban Malays or those in between – must choose a Malay who is honest, hardworking and smart.

“We must choose someone who is fair to all, including poor Chinese, poor Indians, poor Malays. Only then will a Malay leadership be respected by all.

“This is why I tell rural Malays that the Chinese are not their enemies, that DAP is not their foe.

“And, we get angry when Umno picks less intelligent people, like Ahmad Maslan, to become ministers.”

He said the people have the power to change the government for the better, citing as examples the 2008 general election, when the Chinese threw their support behind the now defunct Pakatan Rakyat opposition pact, and how Malays rejected Umno in 1999.

“Let us pray that there will a day when we are no longer Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban or Kadazan.

“We are Malaysians.” – May 9, 2018.
