THE 93-year-old Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the 14th general election is his last chance to save Malaysia, and pleaded voters to work with the opposition Pakatan Harapan coalition to heal the nation.

In a 20-minute speech telecast live and watched by hundreds of thousands of Malaysians, the PH chairman said he is often asked why he has not retired.

“I know I am old and don’t have a lot of time left. Many think I should just rest.

“Yes, I want to rest. But many people have come to see me, to ask me to do something to stop the destruction of Malaysia,” said the former prime minister in his last campaign message in Langkawi tonight.

“I cannot disappoint them.”

Dr Mahathir, who ruled from 1981 to 2003, said this is his last opportunity to do something for the country.

“This is the last chance I have to contribute a little in this fight for my beloved country.

“It is not positions I am after. Not riches, and not rank. What I have is enough.

“But what I treasure most is this – my race, country and religion.”

Dr Mahathir ended his speech – his last for the elections – by reiterating his call for all voters to cast their ballots for PH.

“I urge you to turn out in force and vote for PH to save Malaysia from kleptocracy, and restore law and order in Malaysia.

“I beg you to help PH rescue our beloved land.”

His speech was aired live on Facebook at the same time caretaker prime minister Najib Razak gave a speech in Pekan, Pahang. – May 8, 2018.
