“RAPID Fire” Rafidah Aziz tonight fired up thousands of Penang voters at Pakatan Harapan’s mega ceramah – the final event of the campaign – at the Esplanade, telling them to create history with their votes.
“May 9 is the day you will be able to make history with your votes. This is the first time in the nation’s history that the people will be able to change the government.
“After over 60 years, the same company that has managed the country can no longer be given the contract. No more, cannot extend.
“Who decides? You all will decide tomorrow whether you will extend the contract for another five years or give it to PH. Your vote will be historic. Don’t give up this chance,” she said to the large crowd.
Rafidah, who was the international trade and Industries minister in Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s cabinet, is one of the ex-Umno veterans campaigning for PH, which is led by her old boss, this general election. She was sacked by the party last weekend.
Her arrival at the venue with Penang caretaker chief minister Lim Guan Eng, was greeted by loud cheers and honks of the vuvuzela from the crowd, which also waved the PKR flag, under which eye all PH candidates are standing for election.
Rafidah, who was an elected representative for 35 years before retirement, said seniors like her could only guide the younger generation in voting wisely.
She urged voters to think as Malaysians who shared the same problems and the same destiny.
“Tomorrow you vote for PH and make a promise not for yourselves but for your children and grandchildren. I have five grandchildren. If you make the change, then my five grandkids can ‘tumpang’ too.
“Your choice is very simple. Don’t look at the other symbols. Look only at the eye,” she said.
Rafidah said PH was a pact made up of Malaysia’s various races and the people’s shared aspirations as well as hope for a better future.
In her earlier speech at a another ceramah in Butterworth on the mainland, she said PH represented the true spirit of Malaysia that united the people.
She also praised PH component party DAP for sacrificing its iconic rocket symbol to contest under the PKR flag.
“I never imagined DAP would do this. It made me want to come and speak.
“For the first time in history, we have this kind of united leadership that is prepared to work together for the common rakyat.”
Rafidah also asked voters to send enough PH parliamentarians to the Dewan Rakyat and to defend Penang by ensuring that all PH candidates in the state won in the elections.
“Penang under PH may not get A+ but it gets B++. Let PH continue. The federal government, you can change.” – May 8, 2018.
