CARETAKER prime minister Najib Razak’s promises of incentives and goodies if Barisan Nasional is retained in GE14 tomorrow continued right up to the last night of campaigning tonight.
He promised youth below the age of 26 that they would be exempted from paying income tax.
This would help them with the rising cost of living and rental, he added, in his special address ahead of polling tomorrow that was televised live on all major local TV channels.
He then announced a special holiday on May 14 and 15 (Monday and Tuesday) if BN wins, and Sunday and Monday for states that have a rest day on Friday.
“I am planning on giving a special holiday for two days in a row which is 14 and 15 May. Next Monday and Tuesday, whereas the states that have holidays on Fridays will get Sunday and Monday,” he said.
The BN chairman also announced toll exemption for five days for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which falls on the middle of June.
“For Hari Raya Aidilfitri, there will be no tolls charged. Not just for one day or two days but for five days. Two days before Hari Raya and first, second and third day of Raya,” he said to roaring cheers from the crowd where he spoke in Pekan, his parliamentary seat in Pahang.
After announcing the three incentives, Najib wrapped his speech up in 25 minutes.
Najib is seeking to keep BN in the federal government in a closely fought race with the opposition Pakatan Harapan, lead by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. – May 8, 2018.
