BN was too comfortable in previous elections, says Zahid

CARETAKER deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called the 14th general election the best chance for Barisan Nasional to redeem itself, after its lacklustre performance in the last two general elections.

Bernama reported him as saying that BN had been too comfortable in the previous general elections after its big win in GE11, which made it slow to respond.

“We were pushed to the wall twice. In GE12, we had become comfortable from the previous big win. In GE13, we were pushed to the wall… we were late to respond.

“Now, we want to bounce back because GE14 is the best chance for us to redeem our dignity,” he told about 1,500 Muar BN machinery personnel in the Muar Umno building today.

Zahid also said in a media conference later that he believed that Pakatan Harapan was planning “something big” tonight on the eve of polling day.

He asked the rakyat to not be taken in by their tactics, and to evaluate their options based on the 22 approaches initiated by caretaker prime minister Najib Razak, which he said had not been carried out by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The approaches, he said, included removing highway tolls from certain highways, abolishing school fees, and providing students free textbooks.

“All these approaches are different from those taken during Dr Mahathir’s time, when he raised the toll by 5% each year, imposed school fees, and only gave free textbooks to needy students.” – May 8, 2018.
