Daim slams BN for using public funds for mega concert

THE Election Commission came under fire again today, this time for turning a blind eye to the use of public funds to hold a mega concert in Langkawi.

Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin questioned the EC for failing to take action against Barisan Nasional for using public funds to organise the Konsert #Langkawi Hebat in Dataran Lang tonight.

The concert is organised by the Finance Ministry and Langkawi Development Authority. Among the artistes set to perform are Joe Flizzow, Ramli Sarip, Dayang Nurfaizah, and Ayda Jebat.

A lucky draw will also be held, with motorcycles, smartphones, drones, and gaming platforms among the items up for grabs.

“Is the EC blind?

“During elections, they (BN) are only the caretaker government. How can they use the people’s money?

“Bersih has submitted 80 election offences to the commission, but no action has been taken. Are they (EC) working for the government?” he asked at the Baron Villa Resort in Langkawi today.

The concert tonight will be held about a kilometre away from where Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be speaking to Malaysians in a special address.

Caretaker prime minister Najib Razak will also hold a special address to the nation live on national television.

Daim, who has been traversing the country to endorse PH as the next government, said feedback from voters still showed that they were suffering with the goods and services tax.

“When I met the people, they said they could not do business because of the GST.

“The problem is the same in Langkawi and all over the country. If we take over the government, there will be no more GST,” said Daim.

Daim also said a new PH-led government would bring back the trust of countries in the region, which would strengthen the ringgit. – May 8, 2018.
