Have courage to do the right thing, Syed Hamid tells voters

The Malaysian Insight

AFTER his open letter urging Malaysians to vote for change, former minister Syed Hamid Albar is now calling on voters to have courage ahead of polling day tomorrow.

“Have the courage and willingness to sacrifice for the right thing. We must be relevant and change for a better future,” he tweeted.

“Let us now think as one Malaysia that loves our nation to have credibility and integrity at the regional and international level and (be) respected for what we are.”

He also said that Malaysia must be built based on unity, integrity, responsibility, and trust, ending with the message “UNDI Satu Harapan” (vote for one hope).

Syed Hamid, who has held several cabinet portfolios under Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s administration, also clarified that his open letter issued two days ago, which didn’t name any political coalition, was not in support of Barisan Nasional.

“My statement was clearly about supporting positive change, democracy, and fair elections. Not about supporting BN.

“Bukan hint. Jelas siapa patut kita undi. (This is not a hint, it’s clear who we should vote for),” he tweeted.

Syed Hamid has joined a handful of Umno stalwarts who have spoken up against the incumbent BN federal government.

Umno has sacked former ministers Daim Zainuddin, Rafidah Aziz, and Rais Yatim for campaigning for Pakatan Harapan. – May 8, 2018.
