JOHOR Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo ensured there would be no disruption in the state’s sugar supply following MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd’s planned export of its premium white sugar brand, Gula Super, to Singapore next year.

“The ministry is committed to safeguarding the interests and needs of the local population and we will ensure that the sugar export will not lead to any disruptions in the supply chain in Johor,” she told reporters when met in Johor Baru today.

MSM group CEO Syed Feizal Syed Mohammad has recently announced plans to export the newly launched Gula Super to neighboring countries, particularly Singapore. The decision is based on the proximity between its factory in Johor and the city-state.

Meanwhile, Saslinda stated that the state ministry has recorded 1,277 cases involving various offenses, resulting in confiscations totaling RM7.21 million from January 1 until today.

She highlighted that the collection from compounds and fines alone has reached RM1.06 million.

Most of the cases involve price tag offences, discrepancies between displayed and actual prices, and supply-related issues.

For the Christmas Season Maximum Price Control Scheme in effect from today until December 27, enforcement officers will conduct inspections at key locations, including wet markets and shopping malls selling festive items, she added. – Bernama, December 23, 2023
