AMANAH president Mohamad Sabu today blasted Perikatan Nasional (PN) for playing up race and religious politics.

Mohamad said the opposition coalition’s brand of politics merely serves to create conflict and the perception that Islam is neglected or threatened under the Anwar Ibrahim-led unity government.

“Amanah opposes the kind of politics played by PN. It intimidates the Malays and Muslims by suggesting that Islam is under threat and the Malays are neglected,” he said in his presidential speech at the Amanah National Convention in Klang today.

Mohamad emphasised that Amanah also rejects the discrimination of minorities as well as the dominance of the majority under the concept of racial supremacy.

He explained that political parties that harp on religion and practise extreme racial politics will put the country in a toxic political conflict.

“Religion and ethnicity are the two identities that are most easily abused and used as capital or political capital,” he said.

The two-day annual convention will also see party elections held to select a line of 27 senior leaders who will lead Amanah until 2026. – December 23, 2023.
