Back Dr Mahathir fully, Anwar urges Malaysians

ANWAR Ibrahim has released a message on the eve of GE14, calling on voters to back Dr Mahathir Mohamad and saying his former nemesis is able to deliver change.

In a statement today, the Pakatan Harapan de facto leader touched on their new alliance, which has been the subject of contention among Umno-Barisan Nasional.

“The biggest issue is the joining of forces between Dr Mahathir and Anwar Ibrahim, to the point that TV3 aired my old comments attacking Dr Mahathir. In fact, they are raising questions as to why my family and I are willing to work with and trust Dr Mahathir.”

Anwar said Dr Mahathir has “proven that he is willing to struggle, that he accepts his previous limitations, that he is sorry for what he did and is willing to sacrifice time and energy to uplift the people and the country”.

Anwar said Umno-BN’s campaign has been focused on fearmongering, especially the Malays, who they said are being manipulated by DAP.

He said racial sentiments have been played up because Umno-BN have failed to answer the scandals of 1MDB, Felda and to address the people’s suffering because of the rising living costs after the GST was introduced.

“He has been patient taking the insults by Umno-BN while he focused his attention on strengthening the Pakatan Harapan machinery,” Anwar said.

He urged voters to “give their full support to enable him to fix the rot that has been inflicted onto this country as a result of corruption and abuse of power on the part of Umno-BN, under the leadership of Najib Razak.”

“It will be the people who decide, not the the rich and powerful, not the lies and propaganda that are being spread by the Umno-BN media.”

Anwar said PH will bring change, while maintaining religious freedom, in addition to maintaining the position of Islam.

“We will protect the rights of all ethnic groups.

“From the Cheras Hospital, guarded tightly by prison officers, I beseech my brothers and sisters in the people’s movement to demand change this 14th general election.” – May 8, 2018.
