You can hold Pakatan to its pledges, Guan Eng says

THE people can hold Pakatan Harapan (PH) to its election pledges when the opposition pact wins federal power, its deputy president Lim Guan Eng said.

“As a people’s government, we must work for the people, listen to the people and give hope to the people.

“When we make promises, we will fulfil them. You must remind us of the promises we have made you,” said Lim, who is also Penang’s caretaker chief minister.

He was speaking to a crowd of thousands in a mega ceramah at the Penang Esplanade last night.

Lim said PH would scrap the goods and services tax; provide RM2,000 BR1M; stabilise the fuel prices; and abolish the toll at the first Penang Bridge, at Sg Nyior in Butterworth and the North-South Expressway.

He said PH will also see to the building of a light rail transit (LRT) system and the undersea tunnel in Penang.

Lim also said he was very touched by the strong support of the people, who stayed throughout the ceramah despite the rain and strong wind.

Thousands had stood in the rain for hours – most with umbrellas while some drenched, listening to the speeches and waving PKR flags.

“You have shown that Penangites ‘pak si boh chao’ (will not run),” he said.

The DAP secretary-general said the people had proven to caretaker prime minister and BN chairman Najib Razak that they had attended the ceramah willingly because they wanted change.

“Najib had said PH imported people from outside to attend our ceramah events, bussed them in.

“If you are outsiders and we had paid you to come tonight, would you have stayed for hours in the rain? You would have left,” he said as the crowd cheered and blew trumpets to show support.

“We are not like BN that pays people to attend events. We are not like those who sell their principles or those who ‘makan dedak’ (take bribes).

Last night, PH held several ceramah events around the state, including the mainland.

Tonight, as the GE14 campaign draws to a close, at least four big finale ceramah events will be held – two on the island’s Esplanade and Bayan Baru, and two on the mainland’s Butterworth and Seberang Jaya. – May 8, 2018.
