RAFIDAH Aziz said she has always supported Dr Mahathir Mohamad because of his leadership and success in administering Malaysia.

The former trade and industry minister said she wanted to correct the perception that she was loyal to one person.

“My loyalty is to the country. I used to argue with Dr Mahathir a lot,” she told a gathering in Pendang today while campaigning for Pakatan Harapan’s Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

Rafidah said she had been among the most disagreeable ministers in Dr Mahathir’s cabinet, voicing out policies she felt were not right.

“I once disagreed with Dr Mahathir. Eight people were present, and he said the deputy must be loyal to the president.

“But I told him that I couldn’t agree with him. But I support him as a leader as I trust him and I have faith in him.

“He managed the country well, that’s why I support him. Not because he is Dr Mahathir. I’m brave to say so because it’s the truth,” she said the applause and cheers.

She added that Barisan Nasional leaders today are thin-skinned and afraid of criticism. – May 7, 2018.
