'Malaysia does not need saving', says Najib in anti-Pakatan video

The Malaysian Insight

WITH less than two days until polling day, Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Najib Razak and Khairy Jamaluddin have released a video discussing their political foes’ campaign and extolling their achievements.

In the campaign attack ad, uploaded on the Pentas Umno Facebook page, the caretaker prime minister was sitting with the Umno youth leader at a coffee shop, with the latter complaining of “slander” spread by Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders.

Khairy lamented that the main purpose of PH is to “inject hate” into voters so that they don’t vote for BN, despite “failing to fulfill their manifesto and promises”. He said PH leaders have been telling “lies, making seditious comments and giving false hope.”

“PH is anything but harapan (hope). They just look on. The state governments that are administered by PH, have they done any better? Where is the affordable housing in Selangor? They have water (supply) problems,” he said.

“We cannot afford to ruin this country. We must convince the people with the time that we have in the next few days, between BN and this DAP-led coalition. But we cannot let hatred win. We have to get the people to rally behind us.”

Najib nodded in agreement before replying: “I agree, KJ. We have to make rational considerations based on facts.”

“The facts backed by our track record, and our track record goes back 60 years,” he said pointing to the government policies which provided infrastructure, affordable housing and social welfare programmes such as BR1M.

“We are not a bankrupt country as alleged by the opposition. We are not a failed state, and we don’t need saving. In fact, we are a success story. Insha Allah, we will prevail, we must prevail.”

The video, which received 54,000 views and 1,300 comments since it was uploaded six hours ago, was oddly titled “Barisan Nasional gagal memenuhi keperluan rakyat – Mohon viralkan” (Barisan Nasional fails to meet the need of the people – Please viral this)”

Syed Alhadi Ya, a Facebook user whose comment received more than 500 likes, said: “We will try to change (the government) for five years, to prevent Communist China from taking over Malaysia. Come join PH for a better Malaysia.” – May 7, 2018.
