BARISAN Nasional and Pakatan Harapan leaders are making their final push for votes in the remaining 36 hours before the 14th general election campaign reaches the finish line at midnight tomorrow.
Caretaker prime minister Najib Razak has been on the campaign trail in Sabah’s Keningau, Beaufort and Kota Marudu since yesterday and will return to Kuala Lumpur this evening.
Tomorrow, the BN chairman will be at his home base in Pekan, Pahang, where he is defending the parliamentary seat he has held for all but one term since 1976.
Najib, who is seeking re-election for the 10th term, will take on Zahid Mat Trip from PH, Ahiatudin Daud (PAS) and Abd Kadir Sainudin (Bebas).
Tomorrow, Najib will also deliver a special address to be broadcast live on local television channels at 10pm, the same time as PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s scheduled special message from Langkawi that will be live-streamed on Facebook and to all PH ceramah nationwide.
The special messages from both leaders will mark the end of the GE14 campaign that began on April 28. A total of 14.6 million registered voters are eligible to cast their vote this Wednesday.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir, 92, who is contesting in Langkawi, will focus his final round of campaigning on the island until polling day.
In the final push, his loyalists from his former cabinet, Daim Zainuddin, Rafidah Aziz and Dr Rais Yatim, have come out in support of PH and hit the ceramah circuit.
Daim, a former finance minister, was scheduled to appear at six events in the Klang Valley today and another in Langkawi tonight.
Both Dr Mahathir and Daim will hold a press conference in Langkawi tomorrow afternoon while Rafidah, another Umno veteran, will be in Penang tomorrow night as part of PH’s final major rally at Padang Kota Lama, George Town.
Nik Omar, the eldest son of PAS’ revered spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, will also deliver his final message tonight via Facebook. – May 7, 2018.
