Your choices have consequences, Church tells Christians

THE Anglican bishop of the peninsula has called on Christians to vote with their conscience on May 9, saying that their choices will have consequences.

In a pastoral letter, Reverend Ng Moon Hing told Christians that because of “choice and consequence”, they should “vote wisely”.

“When we evaluate the competing manifestors of political parties, let us look not simply at proposed policies and as ‘what is in it for us’, but ask instead how these policies would affect those for whom God has called us to be concerned,” he said.

Ng said although the Church had to remain politically non-partisan, “it is the role of the Church to make her views known on policies that are affirming and uplifting of society, and those that are negative and degrading”.

“We should desire that goodness and mercy follow as a nation all the days of our lives and, as in the Lord’s Prayer, His will is brought about not just in heaven but on earth as well.

“It is with these thoughts that I encourage each and every one of you, my dear sisters and brothers, to play your full and responsible role wisely in the upcoming 14th general election and thereafter, as loyal citizens of Malaysia,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Damansara Utama Methodist Church will hold an all-night prayer session from 10pm tomorrow to 6am the next day at the Dream Centre, Petaling Jaya.

Catholic churches nationwide held vigils last week for a peaceful election. – May 7, 2018.
