BARISAN Nasional chairman Najib Razak has poured cold water on Parti Warisan Sabah supporters’ hopes that its party will form the Sabah government, saying there are limits to what a state party can do.
He said there was more benefit in supporting BN as absolute power can only be attained through the national coalition.
“I will give you an analogy: if we want to sail to a far off destination, we need a big ship. We can’t use a sailing boat (Warisan). We will never be able to reach our destination,” Najib said in Kota Marudu today.
“Warisan president Shafie Apdal can make all the promises he wants and play to the sentiments to rise to power but they will turn out to be false or will not be realised as he is only leading a state party.
“We need a big and strong ship. Absolute power can only be attained by being in a bigger ship, and this bigger ship is BN.”
Najib also compared himself to Pakatan Harapan chairman and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, saying he was the only prime minister who visited Sabah more than Dr Mahathir did in his 22 years in power.
“Look at his 22-year track record. I know Dr Mahathir doesn’t have the support of most Sabahans.
“He may have forgotten his past misdeeds to the Sabahan people but Sabahans have not forgotten what he did to them,” Najib said.
Najib is on a visit to Sabah, and last night spoke to about 6,000 BN supporters in Penampang before moving on to rural areas Keningau and Beaufort earlier today.
Kota Marudu is his final stop on his Sabah tour.
