WHATEVER the outcome on May 9, it is hard not to feel pride at how ordinary Malaysians have risen up to fight injustice, unfairness and make a difference on the ground.
This campaign period for GE14 will be remembered for the way millions of everyday men and women worked in tandem to bring change and save Malaysia.
Predictably, the headlines have been captured by the incredible energy of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the courage of Rafidah Aziz and fresh voices of hope and reform offered by DAP.
Naturally, it is those who have spoken with eloquence, humour and spirit at the rallies who have captured our imagination and won our hearts.
But let GE14 be remembered for the small man who braved the elements to attend the ceramah and who volunteered in droves to level the playing field for the opposition.
Let GE14 be remembered for the many, many citizens who dug deep into their pockets to help fund opposition politicians.
You were much braver than corporate figures who were cowed into fear and you were much more honest than several high-profile businessmen who talked a good game on social media but did precious little to serve the cause of change.
Damn, damn proud of you, Malaysia
The passion, commitment and courage of the Malaysian voter was the perfect riposte to the bullying, cheating and unfairness of an electoral system designed and protected by the Barisan Nasional government and their stooges in government agencies.
Has there been a more unfair election than GE14? No.
Has there been an election where the guardians of the system have employed laws and rules with wanton disregard for the rules of natural justice? No.
This beloved nation of ours would be devoid of hope if not for the many Malaysians who have left your comfort zones to stare down evil.
The final battle will be fought on May 9.
If we go out to vote in large numbers, an upset could be on the cards and regime change could happen.
But even if that desired outcome is not achieved because of the machinations of those who hold the levers of power, GE14 must be remembered for the way in which millions of Malaysians sought to reclaim their home. – May 7, 2018.
