20 years on, Dr Mahathir is supporting me, says Azmin

The Malaysian Insight

TWENTY years ago, Mohamed Azmin Ali, contesting in his first general election, went up against Dr Mahathir Mohamad, but now, the former prime minister is supporting the caretaker Selangor menteri besar in Pakatan Harapan.

“Twenty years later, Dr Mahathir has come to support me and PH,” he told a crowd of 5,000 people at a ceramah in the Klang Valley tonight.

He also thanked Muhyiddin Yassin and Mohamad Sabu for their attendance.

Azmin won the Hulu Kelang state seat in the 1999 general election, while Dr Mahathir’s tenure as prime minister continued following Barisan Nasional’s victory in the polls.

The PKR deputy president took a jab at caretaker prime minister Najib Razak, saying the attendees at tonight’s ceramah were not ferried in on buses.

“Please tell Najib that we got here ourselves.

“We did not force (anyone to come). We are all here to defeat Umno and BN.”

He said the PH government will look after the welfare of all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion.

“We will also ensure that Malay rights are not threatened.”

Among those present at the ceramah were former ministers Rafidah Aziz and Daim Zainuddin, Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. – May 6, 2018.
