MOTHERLY love took centre stage in Bangsar, with Pakatan Harapan’s PKR candidate for the Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat Fahmi Fadzil’s mother telling voters that his fate rested in their hands.
In a special appearance, Fauziah Ramly took the stage in front of Bala’s Banana Leaf restaurant in Lucky Garden at 8.45pm as the second speaker of the night, and spent 20 minutes talking to the 500-strong crowd.
“I am not here as a politician but I am here as a mother.
“If it is destined that he wins, so be it. But if it destined otherwise…,” Fauziah said, as a voice from the crowd shouted, “there is no otherwise!”.
“All of it depends on you. You are the ones who are going to vote,” said Fauziah, who had earlier admitted to harbouring some fear over her son’s chances in the three-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional’s Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin and PAS’ Fauzi Abu Bakar.
“Can you tell all your friends to vote for my son?,” she asked, to cheers of “Yes!” from the crowd.
Fauziah said that support from middle-class residents in Lembah Pantai was needed to meet the number of those from lower-income areas, such as Bangsar South, formerly known as Kerinchi.
“I know it is tough, I know it is really really tough.
“Fahmi depends on your votes here. It must be 100%,” she said. – May 6, 2018.
