PAS will lose Kelantan, predicts Daim

PAS will lose Kelantan, said former Umno veteran-turned-Pakatan Harapan supporter Daim Zainuddin, whose predictions of past general election results had come true.

At a campaign stop in Kota Baru, the former finance minister said this is because of the confusion among PAS members and supporters over the stance of party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

“Hadi has admitted to working with Umno. This has confused members,” he told reporters in Chempaka, a state seat being contested by Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, the eldest son of the late PAS icon Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

“I predict that they (PAS) will lose Kelantan,” said Daim, who had forecast the fall of the Selangor, Kedah and Penang governments in the 2008 general election.

PAS, which has ruled Kelantan for 28 years, faces an aggressive challenge by both new coalition PH and traditional foe Barisan Nasional in the state.

Analysts have said the Islamist party will likely lose Kelantan due to the rift among supporters and members over its decision to stand alone in the polls, dumping former allies PKR and DAP.

PH comprises the two parties, as well as PAS splinter Amanah and Umno breakaway Bersatu.

PAS is being challenged in all nine parliamentary and 32 state seats it holds in Kelantan. – May 6, 2018.
