I haven't received any letter from Umno, says Rais

UMNO veteran Rais Yatim today said he has not received any letter from secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor regarding the investigation against him for allegedly speaking out against the party.

The government adviser, who has been a vocal critic of Umno and caretaker prime minister Najib Razak’s administration, is also said to have colluded with the opposition.

“I have not received any letter from the secretary-general, even though he has announced that he has signed it and sent it to me,” he told reporters in Bangsar.

Rais said he found out about the matter on social media and some news outlets.

“I find it strange, because this process usually involves a show-cause letter, which I have also not received.”

The former minister said he will accept Umno’s decision should he be sacked, as long as the party followed due process.

“If the decision is made by a committee or panel, I accept the decision with an open heart.

“However, I must be able to defend myself against the accusations levelled at me.”

Former ministers Rafidah Aziz and Daim Zainuddin have been sacked from Umno for openly supporting Pakatan Harapan and attending the pact’s ceramah on its 14th general election campaign trail. – May 6, 2018.
