Don't let cash buy your votes, Rafidah tells Langkawi folk

RAFIDAH Aziz today told Langkawi voters not to be bought over by those who come bearing goodies and cash.

On her first trip to the island to campaign for Pakatan Harapan, the former international trade and industry minister said the people should not let the “envelope” dictate the outcome of the May 9 polls, referring to the packets of money handed out with the aim of securing votes.

“The envelope might contain RM100 or more… I don’t know. Don’t think in the short term, but think in the long term when deciding the fate of the country.

“Ask yourselves carefully, which ‘contractor’ (party) do you want to serve you for the next five years?” she said during a talk at De Baron resort in Kuah.

The former Wanita Umno head said Langkawi used to be great, but its image has faded over the last 10 years.

“Before this was Pak Lah (former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) and company, then (caretaker prime minister) Najib (Razak) and company.

“The people of Langkawi must understand that while Barisan Nasional does not rule over you… they administer (the country).

“Think about the future of your children and pick the right ‘contractor’.”

She said she now supports PH because members of the coalition have put aside their differences to come together and save Malaysia.

“They used to fight with each other, but now, they are together.

“Give the contract to PH (to govern), as we have to put the country back on track again.”

Rafidah is on the campaign trail across the country to endorse PH candidates.

On Friday, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor announced that Rafidah and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin have been sacked for speaking out against the party.

Umno is investigating former minister Rais Yatim, who recently criticised the party. – May 6, 2018.
