Debate will go on, says Syed Saddiq

THE debate will go on tonight as planned at Muar Traders Hotel, Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman said on Facebook today.

“We will go on with the debate at 9pm tonight because we want to bring a culture of debate and discussion to Malaysia,” said the 25-year-old Muar candidate in a video post.

The top debater said he was disappointed with the police’s decision not to allow him to debate Barisan Nasional’s Razali Ibrahim today.

Earlier today, Johor CPO Mohd Khalil Kadir Mohd said the police would not allow the debate to go on because of security concerns.

The debate venue is just 40m from the traffic police station and 600m from the Muar IPD.

Syed Saddiq said he had debated Umno and PAS representatives before without incident.

“But when it involves Dr Mahathir Mohamad against Najib Razak or Nazri Abdul Aziz, there will be all sorts of last-minute reasons not to allow it.”

He said debates allowed for a civil exchange of opinions and that it was an important way for voters to evaluate candidates. – May 6, 2018.
