PAKATAN Harapan in Penang is concerned that voters will split their parliamentary and state seat votes, giving one to PH and the other to Barisan Nasional.
State PH head Lim Guan Eng said this was worrying as most people think Penang is “safe” from the federal opposition.
“In Penang, we are concerned. One vote for PH and the other for BN will put us in a stalemate.
“If we are not careful, BN may slip back in and take back Penang. Don’t let them become the state government again by accident.
“Let us not lose what we have worked so hard for. BN will undo all of it,” he said at a press conference in Air Putih this morning.
In the 2013 general election, BN won only 10 state seats out of Penang’s 40. It also won only three parliamentary seats out of 13.
For GE14, Penang BN has urged voters to support it to ensure proper checks and balances are in place.
BN has banked on development issues and controversial plans, such as the undersea tunnel and reclamation projects, to hammer the PH-ruled state government.
It pledged to cancel the tunnel and other major infrastructure projects, including a proposed light rail transit system to connect the island to the mainland.
Lim, Penang’s caretaker chief minister who is defending his Air Putih state and Bagan parliamentary seats, said BN did not deserve to even be the opposition from the way it has behaved.
“Their manifesto is to cancel infrastructure projects. Can we elect this type of representatives? They don’t deserve the people’s support.
“They want us to choke to death (in traffic jams). That is wrong. Please vote for PH for both the state and parliament,” he said. – May 6, 2018.
