NIK Omar Nik Abdul Aziz respects his family’s decision to bar Dr Mahathir Mohamad from visiting his father and Kelantan PAS icon Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s grave.
Nik Omar, who is contesting against his father’s party, PAS, said there was no problem in his family’s decision to bar Dr Mahathir, who is Pakatan Harapan’s prime-minister-designate from visiting the grave this morning in Pulau Melaka.
“I respect my family’s decision. There is no problem. I respect Nik Adli’s decision,” Nik Omar told reporters after an event in Kota Baru.
Nik Adli, who is Nik Omar’s younger brother, reportedly locked the gates to the cemetery today after hearing reports that Dr Mahathir intended to visit it.
Nik Omar has been at the centre of a feud with his family over his decision to contest on the PH ticket in Chempaka – the state seat his father, a former Kelantan menteri besar, represented for seven terms.
PAS is under siege from PH and Barisan Nasional in its campaign to defend the Kelantan government, a state it has ruled for the 28 years.
Dr Mahathir said he did not want to politicise the incident, adding that he may visit Nik Aziz’s grave after the general election.
“Yesterday, I visited the grave of (former PAS president) Fadzil Noor (in Kedah). He was my friend before he joined PAS. He gave me a lot of religious advice,” he said. – May 6, 2018.
