PAKATAN Harapan (PH) leaders called for unity among the races in ending Barisan Nasional’s (BN) rule at a ceramah in Batu Pahat tonight, recounting how the opposition pact was formed with much difficulty.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, the PH candidate for Pagoh in Johor, explained to the crowd how hard it was to come together to form the pact at first.
“(Liew) Chin Tong used to criticise me. And Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Mohamad Sabu, Lim Kit Siang and Anwar Ibrahim all had issues with Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he said, naming the leaders of PH component parties.
“But we realise that we had to forget the past to fight for the future. And Chin Tong and I are friends now,” said the former deputy prime minister.
DAP’s Liew is the PH candidate for Ayer Hitam where he hopes to unseat the BN incumbent, MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong.
“May 10 will be the day Najib goes in and Anwar comes out. Hence, you must ensure that by coming out to vote on May 9,” said the Johor DAP chief.
Muhyiddin added that the different ethnic groups were more united now in seeking a change of government.
“The Malays are now angry. They know they have do something or their fates are sealed. And so with 90% support from the Chinese, 70% from Indians and 60% from the Malays, we should be able to take Putrajaya.
“We are all brothers, friends and Malaysians and together we can come together to beat BN,” said Muhyiddin. – May 5, 2018.
