End Tengku Adnan’s rule over public land, Hannah Yeoh tells voters

FORMER Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh struck a chord with voters in the affluent Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) suburb tonight when she pledged to get the anti-graft authorities to investigate caretaker federal territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Recounting events that led to TTDI residents suing Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) over the development of condominiums at Taman Rimba Kiara, Yeoh said Tengku Adnan had allowed the sale of public land and parks to developers under the disguise of providing public housing.

“DBKL (The Kuala Lumpur City Hall) must be accountable to the people of Kuala Lumpur. The leadership under the (caretaker) federal territories minister Tengku Adnan has seen 60 plots of land sold in Kuala Lumpur, only half of which is used of public housing,” she said to loud boos at the mention of his name.

She said she felt “sick to her stomach” after reading documents on the transfer of Taman Rimba Kiara’s land title to Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan, of which Tengku Adnan is chairman, and the subsequent sale of the land by the foundation to a private developer for RM100 million in profit.

“We have to put an end to Tengku Adnan’s rule. We have to put an end by taking Putrajaya. I want MACC to look into Tengku Adnan’s track record in the sale of land in Kuala Lumpur. To sell parks disguising it as public housing, we cannot let this go.”

She said the public housing promised to residents of TTDI longhouses could have been built for far cheaper instead of including them under a private developer’s project to build eight blocks of high-end apartments on Taman Rimba Kiara land.

Yeoh also promised Kuala Lumpur residents that they would be able to vote for the mayor and local councillors under a Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government.

“The people of Kuala Lumpur deserves a second ballot paper to vote for their mayor. The only way now is to put PH in Putrajaya.”

She made another pledge to ensure that Bukit Kiara would be gazettes as a green lung, noting that the decision to do so hand already been approved by the cabinet in 2007 but it was never implemented.

“If you don’t send in a new government I’m afraid Bukit Kiara will go missing. This is my pledge, if I am given the mandate in Parliament, I will fight to get Bukit Kiara gazetted,” she said, pointing to the track record of the Selangor government which gazetted 30% of forests in the state.

Yeoh also attacked her opponent, BN’s candidate Loga Bala Mohan from MyPPP.

“Loga is no ordinary BN candidate. He is the (caretaker) deputy federal territories minister. He answers to Tengku Adnan. He knows very well what is going on here. Come May 9, you the voters will put an end to this saga.” – May 5, 2018.
