WANITA Umno head Shahrizat Abdul Jalil will be made a minister if Barisan Nasional wins two-thirds majority in the 14th general election, caretaker deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
Zahid said she could be appointed a minister as a reward for her loyalty after she agreed not to sabotage the party and stand in GE14 when she was not selected to contest.
“After GE14, I will recommend to (caretaker) prime minister Najib Razak to appoint her,” he said at an event in Bagan Datuk, where Shahrizat was also present.
She is qualified to hold ministerial positions due to her senatorship in the Dewan Negara.
Shahrizat then called on women of the country to ensure a major victory for BN as the ruling coalition’s manifesto was based on facts unlike the opposition’s.
She also said the party had made the right choice to sack Umno veterans and former ministers Daim Zainuddin and Rafidah Aziz after they started campaigning for the opposition, saying party discipline was an important matter.
Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor announced the sackings earlier today and that former minister Rais Yatim, who similarly started campaigning for the opposition, was also being investigated for indiscipline. – May 5, 2018.
